Certain municipal utilities in Massachusetts, in cooperation with Massachusetts Municipal Wholesale Electric Company (MMWEC), have begun offering energy efficiency incentives to their commercial and industrial customers. The MMWEC administers the programs on behalf of the municipal utilities. There are several programs offered, generally these include commercial and industrial retrofit programs, lighting programs, and new construction programs.

Chicopee Electric Light (CEL) offers a Pilot Energy Efficiency Program to encourage non-residential, commercial, and industrial facilities to pursue energy saving measures and install energy efficient lighting and equipment in eligible facilities. Incentives are provided for lighting upgrades, new construction projects, and custom measures. Incentives are based on the annual kilowatt-hour (kWh) savings resulting from the energy efficiency improvements.

Concord Municipal Light Plant (CMLP) offers rebates to commercial customers for a variety of appliances, ETS heating systems, general lighting upgrades, CFL bulbs, and exit sign retrofit kits. A rebate of $3 per bulb or exit sign kit is available and will be credited to customers’ accounts. General lighting upgrades to facilities are eligible for a 50% rebate worth up to $525/kW of demand reduction.

Western Massachusetts Electric (WMECO) helps commercial and industrial customers offset the additional costs of purchasing and installing energy efficient equipment. WMECO offers rebates for lighting, controls, motors, variable frequency drives, compressed air, energy management systems and general HVAC upgrades. Some rebates vary by energy savings or by the efficiency of the purchased and installed equipment. Some rebates may also be limited based upon whether applications are for small business customers, retrofits, or placed in new construction.
